Beginner Musician

The beginner musician can compose musical sounds and notes with some assistance.  Percussionists are able to hold sticks or hands properly and produce sound intended for their particular instrument.  Horn musicians are able to play at least one scale without assistance.  Percussionists can perform rhythmic actions in the correct time signature and tempo.

The intermediate musician can play multiple scales without assistance.  For percussion, they demonstrate the ability to understand and create proper musical actions and maintain tempo without assistance.  Horn players are able to identify and play notes on the staff and demonstrate the ability to play all the notes on the staff. Guitar and keyboard players can play chords. The intermediate musician is able to demonstrate proficiency on rehearsed musical pieces.  The intermediate musician has an overall serious approach to learning their instrument and music.  

In addition to intermediate skills, the advanced musician can identify multiple time signatures and all major key signatures.  The advanced musician can read music during rehearsal and learn a musical piece without assistance.  Percussionists can read and play notes without assistance.  

In addition to advanced skills, the superior musician can identify all time signatures and all major key signatures.  The superior musician can read music during rehearsal and learn a musical piece without assistance.  Percussionists can read and play notes without assistance. The superior musician can perform all melodic scales. The superior musician can hold an exact pitch. Percussionists are able to perform complex rhythms
